Staffing & Design Precinct Update

Staffing & Design Precinct Update

11 August 2022

Dear Parents/Carers

Our term has been progressing really well, with our Year 6 and 7 returning last Friday from a successful Canberra Camp after a three year hiatus. Our junior and senior debating teams also started their season last night. Congratulations to all who competed, especially our senior team who won their very first debate.

We are pleased that our Open Day on Tuesday was a success, with many new Sunshine Coast families getting to see all that is great about our College. We have already received our first enrolment application from the day. Thank you to our staff and students who supported the morning.

Marius Muller (Acting Head of STEM in our Secondary Learning Community) has let us know that he will be moving back to Brisbane at the end of this year in order to spend more time with his family.

Over the past two years, Marius has faithfully served the College, not only as a Mathematics and Science teacher but also as our Year 9/10 Year Level Coordinator in 2021. He also stepped in to lead our STEM learning team this year.

We will have an opportunity at the end of the year to formally show our gratitude, however, I want to say thank you to Marius for his humble servant leadership approach and the integrity he has shown throughout his time with us. Marius’ commitment to his responsibilities and to the wider ministry of the College has been greatly appreciated and will be missed.

His focus is on completing the year at CalCC and ensuring a smooth transition for our students. We have already started the interview process to find a Head of STEM for 2023 and we will keep you informed.

Sadly, Alice Naidoo (Secondary teacher) has notified us that she has also found a position closer to home and has felt called to accept the new position in Brisbane.

Alice will be finishing on Friday 2 September, however will be working with Beck Spicer (Director of Studies) to ensure that our Year 12 students have completed their units and have all they need for revision.

She will also be working to ensure minimum disruption to all her classes due to her early departure. We are currently advertising her position and seeking potential applicants.

I’m sure that many parents are keen to hear about the progress of our Design Precinct.

In Term 2, the tender process was completed but, unfortunately, due to the current building climate, we only received one valid tender submission. This is not enough to secure our promised government funding and, therefore, we have had to restart the tender process. We are hoping that we will be able to commence the building project by the end of the year.

If you have any questions, please let us know via email.

We want to thank those parents who are supporting us to ensure the drop off and pick up process in our main car park is both efficient and safe for our students.

Our big request is that you continue to move forward and do not pick your children up until you are adjacent to the undercover waiting area. This will ensure cars move through the car park as efficiently as possible.

Thank you for your support and partnership with us.

Kind regards

Vince Wakefield
