On Wednesday 8 June, we encourage all Secondary students to wear crazy socks with their school uniform and bring a gold coin to donate to the amazing Toowoomba-based organisation, YouBelong. Their mission is to lead the way in welcoming and empowering refugees to integrate and thrive in our community through:
Welcome picnics
Family home visitations
Children’s programs
Resilience programs
English lessons
Practical help with driver training, computer skills and writing resumes
Multicultural performance bands
The founder of YouBelong, Tim Buxton, will be speaking to our Secondary students about the YouBelong ministry at Junction on the day. At morning tea, our Year 7-12 students will form a guard of honour to cheer on ultra-marathon runner, Jordan Chenery, as he runs through the College as part of his commitment to complete 33 marathons in 33 days to raise money for YouBelong. These marathons represent the grueling journey that most refugees are forced to take when fleeing their homes to seek safety and refuge.
This is a great opportunity to help our students further develop the value of compassion and lifting up others.
