learning community

years 7-10:

Finding your place in the world

The transition from Primary to Secondary is an exciting and challenging time. During these years, it can feel like every aspect of life is changing.

A Supportive

learning environment

At CalCC, our junior Secondary Learning Community (SLC) intentionally supports and empowers our early adolescent students by building and strengthening their sense of identity and self-efficacy. Our philosophy places a strong emphasis on student welfare and relationship in the pursuit of the best outcomes for each student. While still ensuring a strong focus on literacy and numeracy, our Junior Secondary program provides real-world and authentic learning in a wide range of subjects.

Our Junior Secondary program allows for a gradual transition into the rigours of Secondary learning, with the help of the following:

  • Year Level Coordinators to better support specific age groups – change is rapid and we are there to support you at every stage of your student journey
  • Opportunity for individualised learning in Mathematics and English – individualised learning means that you are able to learn at your own pace in order to gain a solid understanding for your future
  • Extension and learning support programs – whether you want to push your learning to new heights or consolidate in areas where you need extra support, CalCC will provide the educational support for you to succeed
  • Career exploration and guidance programs – we are keenly focused on your future and helping you explore your career goals; whatever you want your future to look like, we are here to help you make it happen
  • GROW – Christian-based personal development program – we offer all the care and support you need to become the best version of you
  • Study Smart program to support study skills development – our Study Smart program is designed to empower you to develop the skills you need to embrace the future you want
  • A wide selection of elective subjects – your study program can be as individual as you are. A broad range of subjects means you can follow your dreams and study in the areas you are passionate about pursuing
  • Opportunities for community service and leadership development – we want you to develop your potential through meaningful engagement in service and community life, that’s why we help you to plug into growth opportunities that help you discover what you are made of and what you are capable of
  • Weekly Quest (Christian Studies) lessons where the Bible is explored – space to discover your place in the world and explore your worldview through a Biblical perspective
  • Weekly Junction (Chapel) services – these are times to celebrate life together

Through our academic and pastoral programs, students are challenged to become compassionate young people who demonstrate courage and integrity in their relationships both at the College and within the broader community.

The mental health and wellbeing of our students are paramount to our teaching at CalCC where we strive to make sure each and every child reaches their full potential. Our students are the reason for our educational business, making sure that they are able to cope with the normal stresses of life.

Through the Caloundra Christian College Foundations, our students will be able to speak the truth in the face of adversity, show strength when faced with challenges, and strive to be the best they can be, while discovering who they are and whose they are. A child that is unique and created in the image of God.

    – Julie Lockyer, Deputy Principal.

Courage helps me to do more things outside of my comfort zone. My old school was so big that I could never do things on stage but since this is a smaller school I feel able to do things out of my comfort zone. I just love CalCC.

    – Eva, Student

I like the school because it is a small close community.  Everybody knows everybody’s name and you feel you can say hi to everyone because you know who they are.

    – Toby, Student

    Students choose

    what’s right for them

Our students have access to a wide range of general and applied curriculum offerings that are approved and supported by the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA).

Vocational education and training courses also equip students with nationally recognised qualifications in business, tourism, engineering pathways, health services, information communication technology, hospitality and Christian ministry. The College maintains close collaborations with trade training and tertiary institutions across the Sunshine Coast.

The College works closely with employers and training organisations to maximise long-term employment opportunities for our students.

    Personal

    excellence

Our students are encouraged to excel in their chosen pathways, be they academic and/or school-based apprenticeships and traineeships. Reaching for and achieving one’s personal goals is a sure foundation for a fulfilling and successful future. We encourage students to maximise the pathways they choose and we pile on the support and guidance to help them gain the most advantage possible from their schooling.

    Making

    their mark

With an emphasis on developing leadership and citizenship skills, active community service, and sporting and extra-curricular opportunities, our students are supported to build strong foundations for an exciting and purposeful future after leaving College. They will take on challenges that establish confidence in their own talents, skills and abilities.

Students learn to think for themselves and extend their learning beyond the curriculum, with the knowledge that their teachers are always there for them if they need help and guidance.

We are immensely proud of the young men and women who graduate from Caloundra Christian College as purposeful, well-rounded contributors to society, ready to take on the future.

    PATHWAYS

Isaiah 30:21 Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”

The Pathways Program is designed to help students navigate their career pathways and discover their God-given purpose along the way.

For some students, there is a clear goal for them to march towards, while others have to grapple and wrestle with several options before settling on what it is they want to do.

Whatever their journey entails, we believe that every child is unique and made in God’s image and that He has a unique plan for each of their lives. We provide guidance and pathways to ensure students are able to reach their chosen goals.

CalCC’s Work Experience Program offers real-world work experience to Year 10 students with many students securing part-time employment as a result. An increasing number of community employers approached CalCC as their preferred option to find casual and full-time employees, and/or trainees or apprentices.

Students can also be supported to commence their own small businesses.

It has really helped me to know that no matter how silly I think a question is, it has value to ask questions and it can help others too. This school makes other schools look boring.

    – Judson, Student

CalCC is amazing because the teachers listen and help you when you need to ask a question. The students are friendly and make you feel comfortable when you start.

It’s fun because there are lots of fun afternoon sports you can join and create friends.

    – Isaiah, Student

Being encouraged to improve has helped me to learn more. The school is great and the subjects and teachers are really great too.
